0% APR for 18 Months on Balance Transfers
Posted on October 22nd, 2010
If you’re looking to transfer some high-APR credit card debt, consider the latest offer from Discover.
The Discover More credit card comes with “0% APR for 18 months” on balance transfers and 0% APR on purchases for six months.
This is pretty much the longest 0% APR promotional period you’ll see on a credit card these days, so take advantage.
The credit card has no annual fee, but does carry a balance transfer fee of 5%, or $10, whichever is greater.
After that, the APR will be variable, ranging from 13.99% to 20.99%.
If you’re currently paying finance charges, this credit card could save you a lot of money.
Let’s look at a quick example of the savings:
Credit card debt: $2,500 Current APR: 19.99% Annual finance charges: $500
If you executed a balance transfer using this card, you’d incur a $125 balance transfer fee, but pay no interest for a full 18 months.
You’d also be able to pay down your debt over this period, instead of simply offsetting interest charges.
Keep in mind you’ll probably need a good credit score to qualify, as credit card issuers have reduced their risk appetite over the past few years.
