How Much To Spend on Wedding Gifts?

Posted on September 24th, 2011

They say that your 20s and 30s are the “wedding season” because of all your friends getting married! With weddings come not only celebration and merriment, but also the question of how much to spend on wedding gifts?

In a few weeks CB and I will be attending a wedding of his coworker and friend (the one who has a honeymoon registry), and we have to decide on how much we should spend as a gift. Do we take into consideration what it would cost to feed and entertain us at the wedding, the groom’s relationship with CB, the fact that I don’t really know the couple, or all of the above? Here are some questions that we asked ourselves when it comes to wedding gift budget.

  • How close are we to the bride and groom? Are we siblings, cousins, close friends, casual friends, coworkers, strangers we bumped into on the street? (just ki

Thousands of renters forced into flatshares

Posted on August 25th, 2011

Soaring rents have forced an extra 100,000 people into shared accommodation over the past year, according to a poll carried out by easyroommate.co.uk.

The flatsharing website said the number of renters now living with other people has increased to 2,851,000 from 2,749,000 a year ago.

If numbers continue to grow at their present rate, the flatsharing population will hit three million by April 2013.

While 82% of respondents to the poll said they aimed to own their own home in the future, the majority cited financial issues as the main obstacle to getting a foot on the housing ladder.

Around 70% of those questioned said they either didn’t earn enough money to pay for a large mortgage or didn’t have a big enough deposit.

You can get the money you need to cope with urgent financial needs in as little as an hour. In this article, we are going to talk about how you can easily apply for a payday loan in an instant.

Let’s start with the nature of payday cash advance, shall we? This loan is designed for short-term use only; the loan term is usually set at a maximum of 30 days and will be automatically paid on your next payday, hence the name payday cash advance. Are Credit Cards Bad for Your Credit Score?

Posted on July 6th, 2011

Credit card Q&A: “Are credit cards bad for your credit score?”

In short, no, opening a credit card won’t hurt your credit score, at least not in the long run.

Sure, you may see your credit score get dinged a few points when you apply for a credit card, but this is standard practice when you apply for any type of loan.

Be it a credit card, auto loan, mortgage, or any other type of loan. Essentially, anytime you make a request for new credit, you heighten your credit risk. Don’t confuse this with checking your own credit score, as that doesn’t involve new credit and will not hurt your credit score.

The general thinking is that those in need of credit, whether for good reasons or bad, are less financially healthy than those who don’t need new credit.

It’s a harsh rule, but obviously it’d be pretty darn complicated to make the whole process subjective. And like anythi

Do Credit Cards Help Your Credit?

Posted on June 20th, 2011

Credit card Q&A: “Do credit cards help your credit?”

Put simply, a credit card that is reported to the 3 major credit bureaus will help your credit history, assuming you make on-time payments.

Of course, if you open a credit card and miss a payment, even just one, it could send your credit score plummeting.

That’s why it’s imperative to understand that when you open a credit card, you have a responsibility to ensure it is paid as agreed, on-time, every month.

If you follow that simple rule, you will be rewarded with a good credit score, assuming your other lines of credit are in good standing as well.

Conversely, if you let things slip, you could well end up with a bad credit score, all for one shoddy credit card account.

So be sure to stay on top of payments to avoid any mishaps.

More Available Credit

A credit card should also provide you with more available credit.

For example, if you open a credit card with a $5,000 credit limit, that’s another $5,000 you’ve got at your disposal in the credit department.

This means your credit utilization should drop, which should boost your credit score over time.

Both Fico score and VantageScore consider things like balances and available credit, so having an open line of credit with a very low balance will help you in the long run.

But again, if you max out your new credit card limit, you’ll hurt your credit and wind up in a worse spot than in which you started.
