Five ways having a partner saves you money

Posted on January 25th, 2012

Never mind romance and companionship, being in a relationship can save you cash too!

Valentine’s Day is around the corner and already the shops are stuffed full with hearts and flowers, so what better time to take stock of your relationship and ask yourself whether you’re really making the most of your partner?

No we’re not talking about whether they’re handy with their DIY skills, good at fixing the car or helping round the house, but ways to get more financial mileage from your relationship.

Spilling the beans on your relationship can cut the cost of your motor premium.

An investigation by the consumer group Which? found over 60% of insurers vary premium prices according to whether you’re married or not.  It’s not as crazy as it sounds, as insurance quotes are based on risk. And the th

Clegg wants more worker-owned firms to sustain economy

Posted on January 15th, 2012

The government will encourage greater worker ownership in companies to counter the “crony capitalism” that contributed to the 2007/8 financial crisis and tipped the country into recession, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said on Monday.

An “unrestrained economic elite” driven by short-termism and recklessness had brought the economy to the edge and had to be restrained by a more responsible capitalism, Clegg said in extracts of a speech released in advance by his office.

Clegg said greater participation by employees would help rebalance a business environment “monopolised by a minority”.

“We now have an economy driven by immensely powerful vested interests …

How to Find Joy

Posted on January 2nd, 2012

A little passage in Psalms struck me this morning and I thought Id share the wisdom to get us thinking this week.

It seems that all of us are searching for meaning, happiness, purpose, or something more in this life to satisfy our souls.

Whether we admit it or not, deep in our hearts is a longing to know how to find joy.

Sure we can try to find joy in things like keeping a joy journal or finding a true friend, but whats the ultimate answer to ultimate happiness?

As I was reading Psalm 4, I noticed something David said about how to find joy that I thought was a great reminder!

Check out Psalm 4:6-7:

There are many who say, Who will show us some good?  Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord!

You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.

How to Find Joy

Heres a few things that I noticed:

Yes, there is a certain amount of happiness and satisfaction that comes from money.

When our grain and wine abound we receive joy, but it isnt the source of our joy.

Joy from money is fleeting.

Our delight in the latest deal, sale, gadget, or the landing of a big contract always fades away.

You have put more joy in my heart, David says about God.

God is the one in whom we find joy.  Lasting, ultimate joy.

Why?

Because that is how He created the world to be.

There is a rhythm to the way God created this world where people have a relationship with Him and are satisfied in Him.

Unfortunately, when sin entered the picture in Genesis 3, the rhythm of the world was hijacked.

Now we run to all other vices, devices, work, relationships, and hobbies trying to find joy.

So how do we do this?  The answer lies in verse 5:

Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the Lord.

Psalm 51is helpful in understanding what right sacrfices means:

In other words, we recognize our sin, acknowledge it before God, turn away from it in humble repentance, and put our trust in Him.

The gospel is where we begin to find joy.

Everlasting happiness.

Saving money with the financial planner

Posted on December 20th, 2011

The different financial companies available on the market have several plans at your disposal, plans that might help you to get over the difficulties you have. Save and invest a percentage of 5 to 10 from the annual incomes. However, this is harder than it sounds. At a first view, 5 % does not seem a lot, but try to save 100 dollars from a salary of 2000, and you might understand the problems.

Try to create a solid budget with the help of an experienced financial planner. As soon as you are able to set aside some sums, depose a small sum every month in the savings account. In some situations, saving regularly can be done by transferring the money automatically in the savings account as long as there is money in your salary account. Read full post…

3 Tips for Meaningful and Personalized Gift Card Presents

Posted on December 16th, 2011

Gift cards can save your life. How? You may ask. Well, there are now officially 10 days until Christmas. Are you done with your holiday shopping? I am not. In fact, I have not even started. And every day that Christmas creeps close is another day that I don’t want to go into the malls and fight over the picked-over displays of rejected items. Even though I may be a very bad procrastinator when it comes to gift-giving, Istill wants to give something that is of value and interest to my friends and family. The answer, ladies and gentlemen, is “Gift Card.”

I know, I know, many people think gift cards or gift certificates are impersonal. Others say, why not just give cash? But personally, I love receiving and giving gift cards. It’s an enforced way of spending on yourself (you can always save cash, and although you can also sell gift cards online, I’d imagine most people are more inclined to spend it instead). So here a

Lax online shopping security leaves consumers open to fraud

Posted on December 3rd, 2011

Online shoppers are failing to check the veracity of sites they purchase goods from leaving them open to possible fraud, according to a survey from Callcredit.

A poll carried out by YouGov on behalf of the credit bureau found that nearly 70% of consumers do not check websites for contact details. Not making sure the website you are buying from is legitimate can result in your card details falling into the hands of fraudsters and identity thieves.

Nearly half of those questioned who said they planned to shop online this Christmas do not check the websites they buy from are secure and encrypted.
